What Are The Causes Of Impotence?

For men, impotence is also called 'erectile dysfunction'. There are many causes of impotence ranging from physical ailments to mental ones.

The impotence definition is, "Sexual inability: the inability of a male to perform sexual intercourse, usually because erection of the penis cannot be achieved or sustained."

When one gets an injury in the scrotum area at young age, they're much more apt to have impotence later on. Injuries which cause scar tissue that blocks blood flow would result in problems, as would injuries which created trigger points which set up around muscle groups. When muscles spasm, they tighten up around the blood vessels and nerves, causing a lessening of the ability to get an erection.

For a man, anything that impedes blood flow to the penis might be one of the causes of impotence. Nerve damage and injury to the groin are oftentimes the cause. This is far harder to treat than just something that might be all in your head.

However female impotence is also possible. Since there's no organ that can make it very visible that the woman is experiencing impotence, it's hard to determine. But, if a woman has no interest in sex, if she goes out of her way to not have sex because it's just not a pleasant experience for her, then that's termed impotence, too.

In both cases such things as worry, stress, anger, depression and fear can all be reasons that both sexes might become impotent. If someone just died in your family, then you're certainly not going to want to have sex. If you just got a DUI, then you might be under way too much stress to feel that you'd be successful in that area. Much has to do with your feelings of self-worth and you're belief in yourself. If your mate makes you feel bad when you have sex, then you will eventually not want to do it with them. This might hide, because you don't have the courage to just say, "You make me feel bad when we have sex."

It's a very delicate thing to make love. Just one small insult can cause a great dysfunction.

Reduced hormone levels can be the culprit, in both cases. In the case of males, too little testosterone can be a disadvantage.

There are many causes of impotence, then, including illnesses, heart disease, medications can cause impotence such as depression medications. Drug abuse can cause impotence such as alcohol, tobacco or other recreational drugs.

Side effects of medical procedures can sometimes leave you impotent. This might include such things as prostate or urinary tract surgeries.
It comes out as a lack of interest in the other sexual partner. Disgust sometimes is associated with impotence. If your mate is grossly obese, that can definitely be a causative factor. However, on the other end of the spectrum, if your mate is gorgeous, that might make you feel insecure like you could never please them. You imagine that this person must have had all sorts of great lovers, and that makes you feel incapable.

Feeling more capable, then, is one of the ways that you can get relief from impotence.
Impotence aids, such as true aphrodisiacs like Viagra or the herb Johimbe can be essential. There are also aphrodisiacs for women such as Provestra. This gets women feeling sexy much like Viagra does for men.

Symptoms of impotence are easier to see with men than they are with women. There are many causes of impotence.
